三年一哭二郎橋

江謝祖與鄰村楊春香相戀，每晚必相會於木橋上。謝祖之兄耀祖是木工，為其弟修好殘舊的木橋，並命名「二郎橋」，以誌手足情深。轉眼六年，流寇四起，春香與謝祖因戰亂而失散。謝祖和耀祖前往投靠姨丈李桐軒。春香為母疾賣身，正好被桐軒買作耀祖妻子。成婚當晚，耀祖得知春香與謝祖之事，不忍奪愛，故留書出走。謝祖謹守禮法，不願與春香相認。豪強賈華欲侵犯春香不遂，便與李府艷婢芙蓉串通，誣告春香與謝祖有奸情。春香認罪以免連累謝祖，被判死刑。

謝祖欲尋兄長幫忙，途中被劫以致失明，失意之下只想回二郎橋悼念往事。恰巧春香此日受刑，她獲准來二郎橋哭別，二人相會。不久，桐軒查出芙蓉之事，到來告知眾人真相。春香獲釋，與謝祖終成眷侶。

Younger Brother Bridge

Jiang Xiezu is in love with Yang, a girl from the neighboring village, and they meet on a wooden bridge every night. Xiezu’s brother, Yaozu, who is a carpenter, repairs the bridge when it breaks and calls it the Younger Brother Bridge in memory of their fraternal affection.

Six years later, rebels begin to plague the country, and Yang and Xiezu lose touch with each other. The brothers seek refuge with their uncle, Tongxuan. Yang sells herself for the money needed to cure her ailing mother, and the brothers’ uncle buys her as a wife for Yaozu. On the wedding night, learning about the love between his younger brother and Yang, Yaozu writes a letter and leaves home. Abiding by his moral principles, Xiezu does not recognize Yang as his lover. Bully Jia Hua fails in his attempt to seduce Yang. Ganging up with Furong, a flirtatious maid in the uncle’s household, the bully accuses Xiezu of having an affair with Yang. Yang pleads guilty to avoid implicating Xiezu and is sentenced to death.

Xiezu seeks his brother for help, but he is robbed on the way and loses his sight during the struggle. In despair, he returns to the Younger Brother Bridge to grieve over the good old days. It happens that Yang is to be executed that day. She is permitted to go to the bridge to bid a tearful farewell, and the two meet there. Soon, having found out what Furong has done, Tongxuan arrives to tell the truth. Yang is released and marries Xiezu.
