征袍還金粉

司馬仲賢與柳如霜相知相戀，如霜以一襲征袍為仲賢送行，仲賢復以鳳簫回贈，作訂婚之憑。仲賢兄長伯陵鍾情如霜，而表妹媚珠暗戀仲賢，遂慫恿姨母要求如霜報恩下嫁伯陵。仲賢與如霜兄長孟雄凱旋而歸，乍見未婚妻將成兄嫂驚怒交集，但在母親懇求下痛心讓愛。孟雄為妹終身幸福，鼓勵如霜與仲賢私奔。仲賢因孝道及家聲，不得不拒絕如霜還袍斷愛。如霜不忿嫁與伯陵，告知與仲賢相戀事實，並譏伯陵乃敗家子只懂依附母親。伯陵受辱後離家自立，惜至潦倒街頭，忽與母親相遇，埋怨母親從小溺愛至有今日。是時仲賢封侯榮歸，眾人相逢道上，訴盡衷懷，互相諒解，一雙佳侶亦終諧眷屬。

The Returned Armour

Sima Zhongxian and Liu Rushuang are in love. When Zhongxian is about to go to battle, the two lovers exchange betrothal gifts. Rushuang givesZhongxian warrior’s armour; he gives her a flute. Zhongxian’s elder brother, Boling, also loves Rushuang, while the brothers’ cousin, Meizhu, has a secret love forZhongxian. Meizhu urges her aunt to ask Rushuang to marry Boling to repay a debt of gratitude to the family.

Rushuang’s elder brother, Mengxiong,and Zhongxian return from battle in triumph. Zhongxian is surprised and angry to see that his fiancee is becoming his sister-in-law. However, his mother persuades him not to protest. Considering the lifelong happiness of his sister, Mengxiong encourages Rushuang to run away with Zhongxian. For the sake of filial piety and the reputation of his family, Zhongxian has to returnRushuang’s gift.

Discontent with her marriage, Rushuang tells Boling that she loves Zhongxian and laughs at Boling for being childishly dependent on his mother. Humiliated,Boling leaves home and takes to the streets. While roaming, Boling encounters his mother and accuses her of spoiling him and being the cause of his current misfortune. At this time, Zhongxian returns, having been given a noble title. Reunited on the street, everyone from the family pours out their heart and expresses forgiveness. Finally, Zhongxian and Rusuang become man and wife.
