齊國內亂，藩王弒君自立。將軍夏雲龍與妹雲湘攜太子逃亡于外。雲龍與魏國兆河關元帥次女賀彩鳳有婚約，欲投靠賀家，借兵復國。齊偽王通緝太子，魏王不欲惹事，傳旨若有疑人拘禁拿問。彩鳳允諾相助，兄長飛虎則以魏王御旨已下，不能違命。後飛虎睹雲湘豔美傾心，欲以雲湘續弦，雲湘應允。出兵之事則須待賀元帥作主。
及數月，賀元帥未歸。雲龍久候不安，以夫妻之情脅迫彩鳳借用虎符調動軍馬。雲湘眾人合謀，計取兵庫鑰匙。雲龍率兵北齊，掃蕩披靡，復國可期。魏王令賀家取回虎符班師，不然置賀父重罪，一家遭劫。雲龍不允，斬殺反對軍將。及至齊京夏母被脅，賀父遭禁，兩家難為。夏母殉身，雲龍揮軍直進平亂。齊太子以十八城贈與魏國以贖賀家之罪。
Two Heroic Families
A civil war breaks out in the state of Qi when a feudal lord assassinates the king and seizes the throne. Harbouring the crown prince, General Xia Yunlong and his sister Yunxiang flee to seek refuge at the house of his fiancee, Caifeng. Caifeng is the daughter of Marshal Hoe, who guards the Zhaohe Pass of the state of Wei and from whom Yunlong requests an army to help the crown prince regain the throne. The usurper of Qi orders the arrest of the crown prince. The king of Wei also orders the arrest and questioning of anybody suspicious to curry favor with the new head of Qi. Caifeng promises to help but her brother Feihu insists on obeying the king’s order. However, the widower Feihu is impressed by Yunxiang’s beauty, and proposes to the guest; Yunxiang accepts his marriage proposal. The matter is now settled. They wait for Marshal Hoe’s return and his decision to deploy troops.
After several months of waiting for the Marshal’s return, Yunlong loses patience and makes Caifeng issue the Marshal’s “Tiger” mandate for troop deployment. Yunxiang procures the key to the arsenal. Yunlongleads the troops northward to Qi; they plow through all obstacles in their path. Yunlong is about to accomplish his goal when the king of Wei orders Hoe to revoke the authorization and withdraw the troops. The king forces the latter by threatening Marshal Hoe and his entire family with grave punishment if they do not comply. Yunlong refuses to obey and kills those in the troops who oppose him. WhenYunlong arrives in the capital of Qi, he finds a dire situation—his own mother has been taken hostage in addition to MarshalHoe‘s. After Yunlong’s mother sacrifices her own life, he leads the troops into the capital and quells the rebellion. After the victory, the crown prince of Qi grants the king of Wei eighteen cities as compensation for the trouble Hoe and Yunlong caused.
