Introduction

Nanyin is a folk art spoken and sung in Cantonese dialect. It was popular in the Pearl River Delta in the last century. The singers are usually blind. The repertoire ranges from long folk stories to short lyrical pieces. Blind master Du Huan (1910-1979) was the great master of Nanyin. After he came to Hong Kong at the age of 16, he spent more than 50 years in his singing career. This series of two laser recordings is a selection of Du's singing short stories. It was a live recording in Fulong Tea House in Hong Kong in 1975. This not only preserves Du's art, but also reproduces the lost Nanyin singing environment.
