Zhang Yuzhuhai

清官張羽不願與權貴同流合污，毅然罷官歸里。一日張羽泛舟芙蓉湖上，吹簫遣愁，引來東海龍王長女瓊芝樂聲相和。二人情投意合，瓊芝未婚夫東龍太子則矢誓拆散此對仙凡戀人。另邊廂張父聞子罷官，即從關外趕回責問兒子。張羽坦言欲忘卻功名，與仙女共諧連理。張父怒不可遏，舉?擊倒兒子，老僕即攜少主闖龍宮，欲尋瓊芝求取仙藥為少主續命。時眾仙女為龍王賀壽，瓊芝表示甘願犧牲仙壽、自毀三片金鱗，亦要與張羽相戀。龍王一邊以仙索捆綁瓊芝，一邊要脅老僕阻止二人以換取仙藥，老僕無奈答應。張羽蘇醒之時，驚聞瓊芝被逼婚，即往衝擊送嫁儀仗。瓊芝決心殉愛，東龍太子終下令二人相見後自刎。二人深情感動天庭，自刎後頸血化為烈焰，煮乾東海海水。

Boiling the Sea

Unwilling to work with his corrupt colleagues, upright official Zhang Yu resigns his post and returns to his hometown. One day, while boating on the Furong Lake, he plays the flute to vent his emotions. His music attracts Qiongzhi, the eldest daughter of the dragon king of the East Sea, who harmonizes with Yu’s melody. The two fall in love, but Qiongzhi’s fiance, Crown Prince East Dragon, vows to keep them apart.
Learning of his son’s resignation, Zhang’s father comes from the northeast to get an explanation. The son frankly admits that he wants to abandon his official career and marry the fairy princess. Enraged, his father knocks him down with a mace. His old servant takes the son to the dragon palace in hopes that the princess will find him a miraculous cure.

In the dragon palace, fairies are celebrating the dragon king’s birthday. The Dragon Princess insists on being with Zhang even though she has to sacrifice her immortality by destroying her three golden scales. The dragon king ties her up and prevents the old servant from procuring the cure. When he wakes up,Zhang is astonished to learn that Qiongzhi has been made to marry the crown prince. He tries to disrupt the marriage procession. The lovers decide to die in each other’s arms. Finally, the crown prince allows them to commit suicide. Their love moves heaven so much that their blood turns into flames, boiling the East Sea dry.
